Rota, Spain
An Atlantic seaside town in Cádiz, Andalusia. Start here to explore Rota’s beaches and old town, plan your arrival, and find the local services you need during a visit or a longer stay.
Where is Rota in Spain?
Rota is on Spain’s Atlantic coast, on the northern side of the Bay of Cádiz in Andalusia. It belongs to the province of Cádiz. The town and nearby Naval Station Rota share a name, but this guide focuses on the town and its surroundings.
Use Rota as your starting point for exploring the bay. If you are planning an excursion, check connections and return times before committing to a full day away.
Things to do in Rota
Begin in the old town with Castillo de Luna, the historic castle that houses the Town Hall and tourist office. Combine a walk through the centre with a stop on the seafront rather than trying to cover the whole coastline in one outing.
For a nature walk, the Sendero Litoral runs through Rota’s pine woodland towards Punta Candor, with boardwalks and coastal viewpoints. The corrales de pesca are traditional fishing enclosures along the shore; ask the tourist office about guided visits.
For your first day, keep the plan simple: old town in the morning, lunch in town, then a beach walk. Check the events calendar for activities on the dates you are actually visiting.
Beaches in Rota
La Costilla sits beside the old town, while El Rompidillo is another town beach. Punta Candor offers a different setting with dunes and coastal vegetation. La Ballena is beside the Costa Ballena resort area.
Choose a beach for the day’s plan, then check recent reports and tides. Our beach pages show community reports when available; an absence of reports does not confirm today’s conditions.
